1950s Poetry: English 10

1. Make an inference about the speaker's lifestyle in "The Bean Eaters." What makes you say this?

2. What are two words from "The Bean Eaters" that you think show good word choice? Why?

3. Re-read the third stanza in Giovanni's poem "Choices." Do you get the idea that the speaker is thankful for what he/she has? Explain. Does this person have a lot? Explain.

4. Re-read Brooks' "Kitchenette Building." Make a guess about how the people in the poem life. Re-read the last stanza. What can we assume about the living arrangements?

5. What, overall, do you think is the theme/main message Angelou is expressing in her poem "Alone"? Why do you think so?
